B.S. PSYCHOLOGY

Brief Description of the Department

Psychology is a scientific study of behavior and mental processes. As a discipline and professional practice, it contributes to national development through basic and applied research and interventions aimed at solving and promoting optimal development and functioning at the individual, family, group, organizations, community, and national levels.

The Trinity University of Asia’s BS Psychology program aims to provide students the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude preparing them for jobs that may involve interpersonal relations, ethics and research, psychological welfare and mental health and the development and functioning of the individual and the community or organization. The program embodies the university’s core values of integrity, excellence, teamwork, innovation, and social responsibility through its courses. It also provides preparation for graduate studies in different fields of specialization in Psychology as well as further studies in many professions such as medicine, law, and business management.

PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS OVERVIEW

The TUA Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS Psychology) program is a 4-year degree course designed in accordance with CHED memo No. 34 series of 2017. The program aims to produce graduate with solid basic knowledge and skills in Psychology with additional preparation in the natural sciences.

BS Psychology graduates could be licensed Psychometrician or work in the academe, in Human Resources, or in research. Graduates may also pursue careers in medicine, law, management, etc. With further specialized training, graduates from this program may pursue specialization in different fields in Psychology such as in clinical, counseling, developmental, educational, social, industrial/organizational, etc.

The course curriculum is distributed in eight (8) semesters with two (2) summers, during their second year and 3rd year.  The first year curriculum focuses on completing the basic pre-requisite major and the GE subjects. The second year curriculum focuses on completing the pre-requisite major subjects. The third year curriculum focuses on completing psychological research and the fourth curriculum focuses on the completion of this Practicum in Psychology where students are required to work in actual Psychological services sites.

All graduates of this program is qualified to take the national board examination for Psychometrician, the first license they have to acquire to be legally engage in any works related to Psychological assessment.

CHED Autonomous Status – Autonomous status granted by the Commission on Higher Education, the highest recognition granted to a private higher education  institution in recognition of the institution’s accomplishments, adherence to quality assurance, and commitment to public responsibility and accountability as a higher-education provider in the Philippines.

ISO Certified Completing the distinctions earned by the University is the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification issued by TÜV Rheinland after the university successfully met the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Standards. ISO certification is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies.

International Linkages and Partnership The university has strong international linkages and partnership that help tighten academic preparations and connections of graduates. STUDENT ORGANIZATION

TUA – Psychology Society is a co-curricular organization for the psychology students of Trinity University of Asia that seeks to form psychology students who are mentally, socially and spiritually balanced. It also serves as the auxiliary arm of the Psychology department in the delivery and implementation of the program.
