Paynor Foundation Extends Educational Assistance to COPE Children

news pic1Barangay Tatalon in the District 4 of Quezon City is the biggest in terms o population.  Trinity University of Asia has been assisting the barangay through its Community Outreach for Pre-School Education.  For the last ten years the College of Education was in the forefront in educating the minds and hearts of these children who are considered marginalized in the barangay.

On July 11, 2011 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning,  Mr. and Mrs. Paynor,  Founder of the Ma. Theresa Bustamante Paynor-Sia Foundation, Inc. in close coordination with the St Luke’s Nurses Association Foundation, Inc. and Mr. Michael Osea, SLCN TCCD Coordinator visited our Community Outreach Pre-School Education ( COPE) in Barangay Tatalon with the supervision of Dr. Juliet Tuazon, TCCD Coordinator for  the College of Education.  The members of the family including their grandchild, who just recently celebrated her birthday, also joined the activity as a thanksgiving celebration of her birthday. They distributed school supplies and stuffed toys to forty (40) children in the Kindergarten class.  Aside from that, the volunteer teachers were also given token by the family.

After this initial activity the Paynor family is interested and looking forward for a long-term partnership with the Trinitian Center for Community Development through the St. Luke’s College of Nursing Alumni Foundation. Mrs. Paynor prefers to extend their service to the needy in the urban communities specifically to children and cancer patients. This is very promising since the Center really needs Donors/partners in development.

The gesture of giving school supplies may just be a small deed to these poor children but we in the University through the Trinitian Center for Community Development feels blessed with good people who would always wanted to extend their blessings to the children in need.  Thank you very much Mr. and Mrs. Paynor.  May you continue to find meaning in everything you for humanity.  More power and maraming, maraming salamat po.

“Reaching Out for an Educational Cause in Liliw, Laguna”

news pic1For quite sometime now the Trinity University of Asia through its St. Lukes College of Nursing was assisting Liliw Laguna, covering the barangays of Valenzuela, Mojon and Daniw in their health related concerns.  The partnership proved to be worthwhile and the community residents were very much pleased with the presence of the Nursing students who have been assisting them in their health and other needs over the years.  In its terminal phase of the community engagement, the TCCD assumed its role towards achieving more developmental programs that will improve the quality of life of the people.  This continued partnership with TUA and now TCCD at its helm, recognizes that the community children needs the educational assistance for this school year 2011-2012 hence, the school supplies project was  carried out in the three communities mentioned.

The Community Organizing Assistant of TCCD, Ms. Rose Rapanot, together with the four (4) TCCD scholars, went to three communities (Barangay Daniw, Valenzuela and Mojon) in Liliw, Laguna to on June 9, 2011, to distribute school supplies to ninety-two (92) indigent children identified by the community leaders in their respective barangays. The school supplies were from the collaborative efforts of the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) through their Coordinator, Ms. Maribel campo, the College of Medical Technology facilitated by Ms. Ma. Dolores Romera, Coordinator, and from personal contribution of Ms. Emmely Noemi Arboleda of the Center for Human Kinetics. Moreover, fifty (50) umbrellas were also donated by the CCIS in which source came from the volunteer students of the College.

There were thirty-two (32) pupils from Barangay Daniw; 32 pupils in Valenzuela who were given school supplies while twenty-eight (28) were from Barangay Mojon. The TCCD scholars also shared their own stories of their lives with the pupils to inspire them to strive hard in their studies. As one of the scholars said, “Masaya sa pakiramdam and makitang may mga ngiti sa mga labi ng mga batang nakakatanggap ng school supplies lalo na mahirap talaga ang sitwasyon nila”. The TCCD scholars were even more thankful for the chance that they had shared their time in a worthy deed in the community. They are also looking forward to have another journey where they can spend their time to contribute in the way that they can in helping others. Likewise, the parents and teachers of the beneficiaries were very thankful to the University for extending their service the poor families in their barangays.
