2020 Trinity University of Asia Peace Ambassadors Crowned

The much awaited and one of the highlights of TUA’s 57th Founding Anniversary was holding the Mr. and Miss TUA held at the Henry Noble Gym last February 6, 2020.

This year’s search for the 2020 Mr. and Ms. Trinity University of Asia has two purposes. First is the pageant and second is advocacy. The advocacy purpose of this activity is on peace education, thus, the pageant will be the Search for Peace Education Ambassador of the University. The winners are expected to promote peace education, forgiveness, and strengthening ties between different cultures and religions, specifically Muslims and Christians, of which covers the majority of biases with one another in the Filipino society.

The event also aims to: (1) foster camaraderie among academic units of the university by involving student leaders; (2) to discover and rediscover talents and potentials of students through pocket events of the pageant; (3)  facilitate advocacy project(s) and service learning activities that focuses on peace ; (4) provide an avenue for academic discussion on peace education by inviting students and lecturers from different schools especially of those who are having peace educations subjects; and (5) value the interest and the role of Trinitrian community  in the formation and re-formation of tradition, ethnic group, and spiritual diversity in dealing with contentious issues confronting peace education.

The pageant was hosted by ABS-CBN talent Mr. Romnick Sarmenta and the final interview was interpolated by ABS-CBN field reported Mr. Jervis Manahan, both are faculty members of the Media and Communication Department of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. The Peace Message was delivered by Hon. Bai Rihan Sakaluran of Sultan Kudarat while the Peace Education Commitment for the students was rendered by Ms. Shaira Venice Declaro, the University Student Council Governor. Also present in the event were Dr. Wilfred Tiu, the University President and other Deans and Heads of different units of the University.

In a jam-packed crowd of 1,500, nine pairs of peace education ambassadors participated in the pageant: (1) College of Engineering and Information Sciences, (2) St. Luke’s College of Nursing, (3) College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, (4) College of Allied Health Sciences, (5) Junior High School, (6) College of Medical Technology, (7) College of Arts, Sciences and Education, (8) College of Business, Management & Accountancy, and (9) Senior High School.

Ms. Abigail Tan of Senior High School and Mr. George Allen Peters of College of Engineering and Information Sciences were crowned as this year’s peace ambassadors.

This year’s pageant was facilitated by the Media and Communication Department of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. Dr. Marlon Gomez is the 57th Foundation Anniversary Chair and Dr. Fernando Trinidad is the Co-Chair. On the other hand, Atty. Puramaryver Saquing is the Peace Advocacy Chair while Dr. Walter Yudelmo is the Personality Development Chair for the pageant.
