COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DESCRIPTION OF AREAS/ PROGRAMS SERVICE-LEARNING ENGAGEMENT SITES

Broadway, Barangay Kalusugan

The community where Trinity University of Asia college campus belongs. The area of engagement can be reached through walking since it is just about 200-300 meters away from the campus. The average period of residency of the members in this community range from 15 to 20 years.

COPE Learning Center, Barangay Tatalon

This community is one of the largest communities in District IV, Quezon City. One of the areas where Trinity University of Asia existed for almost three (3) decades through its program in the community learning center that caters for children below 4 years old. The majority of the population of this community are informal settlers that is composed of diverse culture and migrants from other provinces of the Philippines. This can be reached through riding two (2) jeepneys (public transportation vehicle)

Araneta 630, Barangay Tatalon

This community is one of the areas of Barangay Tatalon. It is located almost at the edge of the river, making this place flooded during heavy rains and typhoons. Also, the members of this community are informal settlers who took their chances of better living in the City as they migrated from the provinces of Visayas and Mindanao. Others opted to be an informal settler despite being recipient of housing project of the government due to the lack of basic necessities in the relocation site. This area is about 500 meters away from the University and can be reached by walking or through riding a jeepney (public transportation vehicle).

Don Pepe, Barangay Sto. Domingo

This is one of the areas of Barangay Sto. Domingo where regular community engagement programs are conducted and initiated by faculty and students of Trinity University of Asia. The area is situated near the commercial arena of the city yet it is also a road near to a river that usually flows out during heavy rains and typhoons. The average period of residency of the members in this community is between 15 to 20 years while there are informal settlers who have been living in this community for more than 10 years. This is the farthest partner community in Quezon City located about 2 to 3 kilometers away from the University. It can be reached through riding two (2) jeepneys and tricycle (public transportation vehicle)

Silong Tanglaw Foundation

This is a non-government organization located in Barangay Tatalon, one of the partner communities of Trinity University of Asia. This can be reached through riding two (2) jeepneys (public transportation vehicle). Hence, their programs and services focus on boys (children) in the streets.

Concordia Children’s Services

This is a child welfare non-government organization located in Old Sta. Mesa catering for children (infant to toddlers) who are abandoned and neglected.  The programs of the organization include:
– educational assistance and scholarships through sponsorship
– tutorial sessions for elementary and high school students
– nutrition and feeding program
– Christian education and skills training for children and parents
– activities such as character-building and values reorientation sessions, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, etc.
– referral for social services, counseling and family welfare services
– alternative education (in mathematics, language, science) for out-of-school children and youth for possible mainstreaming to formal school

Kamuning Bible Christian Fellowship (KBCF) Foundation

This is a Christian church and foundation that caters for the different sectors in its nearby communities and various marginalized groups of the society. They also have learning center that provides quality education for the less fortunate families within their neighborhood that is supported by the children who are able to pay for their private learning center. This is located in Kamuning that is about less than 3 kilometers away from the University.

Sitio Katwiran and Catmon, Rodriguez Rizal

A rural-urban community where the St. Luke’s College of Nursing conducts their Related Learning Experience (RLE) to which they facilitate Family Nursing Care Plan assessment and implementation through immunization with children, health education sessions on children and maternal care as well as the elderly. For this year, the community will have a comprehensive program that will address not only health but also literacy and economic issues and concerns.

Sitio Sapa, Rodriguez Rizal

A rural-urban community site that is a targeted potential new partner community of the University. The community is near the famous, Wawa Dam and surrounded with a small lake making it flood prone area during heavy rains and typhoons. The population in this community also comprised indigenous peoples (Dumagat tribe) whose primary source of living is tour guiding. The estimated number of households in this community is not less than three hundred (300). The travel time going to this community from the University is one hour to one and a half hour.
