SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Trinity University of Asia seeks to provide deserving and promising youth with scholarship aid. Towards this goal a part of the school's budget is allotted to scholarships for high school valedictorians and salutatorians and for students already enrolled at TUA who have achieved and shown promise of high academic performance. Other funds for scholarships are received from different agencies or private individuals.
Scholarship Grants. Students who would like to avail of a scholarship grant must apply for it. Those in the Dean's List automatically qualify for scholarship.
1. Application forms are available at the Committee on Scholarships and Financial Assistance (CSFA) c/o the Guidance Center .
2. It is understood that the institution expects her scholars to live up to the hope and confidence entrusted to them. Unbecoming behavior, irregular attendance in classes and poor academic performance will be sufficient causes for loss of scholarship, financial assistance and all privileges attached thereto.
3. The CSFA evaluates the performance of every beneficiary at the end of each semester based on scholastic records. Whenever necessary it may recommend the discontinuance of the study grant at any time if the student fails to comply with the requirements of the study grant. A notice will be given to the student within a reasonable period prior to withdrawal of a study grant.
4. A student who has been the subject of disciplinary action of any kind is automatically disqualified for scholarship or financial assistance regardless of high academic achievement
Entrance Scholarships. Any student graduating as valedictorian or salutatorian of a class of at least fifty (50) students from an accredited high school is entitled to a discount of 100% and 50%, respectively, on tuition fees.
1. During enrollment, the qualified student must fill up a special form to be immediately acted upon by the Registrar based on adequate evidence. Attached to this form is a letter from his former adviser attesting to his moral character and ability to undertake college work.
2. Special scholarships are also given to high school graduates who qualify at an examination given during summer vacation. Inquire from the CSFA c/o the Guidance Center .
College Scholarships. All honor students in the Dean's List automatically qualify for scholarship.
1. An honor student is one who has carried an academic load of at least seventeen (17) or eighteen (18) units of the regular semestral load prescribed by his own curriculum during the preceding semester, who has obtained a grade point average of 1.75 or higher, and has no grade below 2.00 in all his subjects.
2. Scholarships for honor students (Dean's List) are based on the following averages:
a. Full Scholarship (100% discount on tuition fees) - 1.00 - 1.24
b. Partial Scholarship (75% discount on tuition fees) - 1.25 - 1.49
c. Semi-Partial Scholarship (50% discount on tuition fees) - 1.50 - 1.75
3. No student may enjoy two (2) grants from the College scholarship fund at any time. A College scholar already enjoying substantial grants or compensations from other sources (NSLCC, Veterans, etc.) may not qualify for a College scholarship.
Academic Entrance Scholarship
1. This is granted to college freshmen - applicants for the first semester who meet the following requirements:
a. High School GPA is 85% or higher.
b. Result in all areas of the scholarship examination is HA or better. Applicants must present certificate of good moral character and barangay residence certificate.
2. To avail of same scholarship for the second semester, the academic entrance scholar should have a weighted average of 1.75 with no grade lower than 2.00 in any subject for the first semester.
3. In higher years, same scholar may apply for the A.L. Carson Scholarship or the College Scholarship (Dean's Lister) provided the requirements of said scholarships are met.
Arthur L. Carson Scholarship. A study grant for academically qualified students unable to continue their studies on account of financial difficulties.
1. Only students who have been at TCQC for at least one (1) school year or two (2) consecutive semesters may apply for this study grant.
2. Requirements:
a. Academic ability - academic ability is based on the school record certified and evaluated by the Registrar and an IQ and Personality Test administered by the Guidance Center .
b. Financial needs - the financial needs of the applicant will be evaluated from certification such as the income tax return of parents or certificate of exemption issued by the BIR.
c. Good Moral Character - moral character is evaluated on the basis of certification of the deans, faculty advisers or former instructors of the applicant.
d. Good Health - each applicant shall secure a health certificate from the College Physician.
3. The study grant consists of tuition fees for one (1) semester, renewable every semester at the discretion of the CSFA.
Lilian J. Weiser Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is given by the St. Luke's College of Nursing Alumni Association in memory of Ms Lilian J. Weiser who was Superintendent of Nurses at St. Luke's Hospital for many years. The recipient is chosen by the Committee on Scholarships of the Alumni Association upon recommendation of the Nursing faculty on the basis of excellence in clinical performance. The scholarship is given to a student in the senior year.
Charitable Service Scholarship Program. This scholarship is awarded to needy students who, in return for financial assistance, perform volunteer service. The scholarship aims to:
a. provide financial assistance to needy students, preferably those from cultural communities and/or members of the Episcopalian Church and Independent Church , including children of the clergy.
b. increase students' concern for the problems of society as well as instill in them a sense of civic responsibility and commitment in helping those in need by providing help to service agencies.
c. build bridges of goodwill between colleges and communities as well as linkages with churches, colleges and service agencies through a program of mutual interest and benefits.
More Scholarships and Study Grants
1. A student enjoying educational benefits under Section 22 of Republic Act 65 as amended by Republic Act 557 shall present a Certificate of Eligibility of Renewal duly approved by the Philippine Veterans Administration (if the student is the child of a veteran) before he can be officially enrolled.
2. Beneficiaries of the United States Veterans Administration (USVA) are also admitted.
3. Children of parents from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police who are recipients of the Medal of Valor may avail of full scholarships.
4. National Scholarships. The College also accepts scholars/grantees of the State Scholarship Program (SSP), National Integration Study Grant Program (NISP), and Group Educational Assistance Program (GEAP).
5. Special Scholarships and Study Grants. Special scholarships may be granted at times by private agencies or private donors to students belonging to a specific college of the school. Once the grants and conditions attached to such specific scholarships have been approved by the school authorities, the Dean and the Faculty of the designated college shall select the recipient of such scholarships. If the fund has been deposited in the school scholarship fund, the Dean and the Faculty of the college concerned will send their recommendations to the President through CSFA. If no special condition is attached to the grant of these special scholarships, the general rules governing scholarships and financial assistance will be followed by the CSFA.
Special Discounts. Discounts on tuition fees to three (3) or more children of one (1) family enrolled at the same time are given thus:
3 rd child - 10% discount
4 th child - 30% discount
5 th child and succeeding children - 50% discount
Student Assistantship. The students may apply to work their way through college within the limits of availability of funds and job vacancies. This type of financial assistance is given to students with proven academic ability, integrity and skills adequate for the position available, as evaluated by the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO).
1. The applicant should have passed all subjects in the preceding semester or summer term.
2. He shall be allowed a maximum of eighteen (18) academic units while working as student assistant.
3. He shall work for a maximum of one hundred (100) hours a month.
4. The head of the requesting unit shall justify the need for a student assistant and make the appropriate recommendation.
5. The unit head concerned shall check the need against budget allocation since the fund for student assistantship comes from his unit.
6. At the end of every semester, the head of the office where the student works will evaluate the student's job performance and submit his findings to the HRDO who, depending on the evaluation, may recommend the student's retention or separation from work. If the performance, including his academic work, is judged unsatisfactorily, a notice will be given to the student two (2) weeks prior to the discontinuance of his assistance.
7. Students employed by TUA are also subject to the rules governing the academic load of working students as prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
8. An applicant for student assistantship secures an application form from the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) and submits the following: Copy of grades, copy of registration form, parent's/guardian's consent, letters of recommendation from two (2) instructors, health certificate from school physician, certificate of good moral character and picture (size 2x2). The applicant is referred to the unit head for interview, and his application is submitted to the HRDO for endorsement. This is then forwarded to the Finance Office to determine the availability of funds. The Finance Office forwards the recommendation to the Office of the VP for Administration and Finance, and appointment is recommended to the President for approval.
Student Emergency Loan Fund. The Student Emergency Loan Fund is intended to help college students meet their installment payment of school fees on time. Only students who have already enrolled may qualify for a loan, which is interest-free. The loan will be used solely to pay one (1) installment of the student's school fees. The student must pay his loan before he can borrow again for another installment payment. Application for loans is made with the Accounting Office.
Disqualification. A student who has been the subject of any disciplinary action is automatically disqualified for scholarship or financial assistance regardless of his academic achievement. Please note that two (2) minor offenses are equivalent to a major offense.
General Application Procedures. Scholarship application forms are available at the CSFA c/o the Guidance Center . The applicant will:
1. clearly indicate the type of scholarship or financial aid he is applying for, and 2. attach to the form a certified copy of grades with the grade point average and other required documents.
