Opportunities of Filipino Histotechnicians in the United States

Last September 21, 2022, the College of Medical Technology conducted a special program for its 4th year students about the opportunities of Filipino histotechnicians in the United States. Hosted by Ms. Micaela Alabado, the program featured Ms. Evelyn Diaz, a certified histology technician of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) currently working as the histopathology core associate director of a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in California, United States. During her talk, Ms. Diaz discussed her journey on becoming a certified histology technician and eventually the Associate Director in her current institution, as well as the general reputation of Filipino healthcare workers in the United States. She was also joined by Mr. Louie Berlin Cadao and Ms. Elizabeth Chua Marquez of the Philippine Society of Histotechnology, Inc. (PSH) in providing an overview of the application process for ASCP certification in histotechnology. The activity was then concluded with a photo opportunity and a short tour in the CMT histopathology laboratory located on the 3rd floor of the Health Sciences Center Building. This program is part of the initial planning for future collaboration between the organization and TUA- CMT.
