Knowing What to Do Can Save a Life

When a person’s heart stops, someone nearby may be the first to help. In that moment, knowing what to do can mean the difference between standing by and taking action.

On October 16, 2026, World Restart a Heart Day, the Philippine Red Cross brought its CPR Caravan 2026 to Trinity University of Asia. At the Henry Noble Gymnasium, hundreds of students knelt side by side as Red Cross instructors guided them through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of a Basic Life Support (BLS) training activity for National Service Training Program (NSTP) students.

TUA President Dr. Gisela D.A. Luna opened the event with her remarks, followed by a keynote message from Dr. Gwendolyn T. Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross. The event placed life-saving knowledge at the center of the University’s community engagement, with students given the opportunity to learn skills that may prove vital in an emergency.

Under the guidance of Red Cross instructors, students practised chest compressions and learned how to respond to a cardiac emergency. At the Wall of Commitment, each participant pressed a painted handprint onto the display as a pledge to be ready when someone’s heart stops.

Service often begins with what we are willing to do for someone we may not even know. CPR training gives that commitment a practical form. A person who knows how to respond can offer immediate help while professional assistance is on the way.

Through the CPR Caravan 2026, the Philippine Red Cross brought life-saving training to the TUA community. The event gave students a chance to put service into practice through knowledge that may one day help save a life.
