As part of the 58th Foundation Day Celebration of Trinity University of Asia, the Biology Department under the College of Arts, Sciences and Education held its first iQuizBio National Competition (Final Main Event) on 13 February 2021 (Saturday at 1:00-4:00 PM) through the Zoom platform. The Elimination Round was conducted on 10 February 2021 (Saturday at 4-5:30 PM). The iQuizBio is an interschool event for Senior High School students interested in the sciences and in Biology and related courses. The event was aimed to promote the biological sciences among senior high school students and inter-school network of Science, Engineering and Mathematics Strand (STEM) students and teachers across the country.

The seven (7) schools that participated in the Elimination Round last 10 February 2021 were the following: University of Saint Anthony (USA), San Pedro College (SPC), Sultan Kudarat State University – Laboratory High School (SKSU Lab High), Perpetual Help College of Manila (PHCM), Notre Dame of Greater Manila (NDGM), Colegio De Los Baños (CDLB), and Trinity University of Asia (TUA). The five (5) qualifying schools to the Final Round or Main Event were the University of Saint Anthony (USA), San Pedro College (SPC), Sultan Kudarat State University – Laboratory High School (SKSU Lab High), Perpetual Help College of Manila (PHCM), and Notre Dame of Greater Manila (NDGM) (Fig. 1).

The Final Main Event Competition started with the Easy Round followed by the Average Round where the top 5 finalists were chosen to proceed to the Final Round. A Wild Card Round was also done to choose one participant from those eliminated in the earlier rounds to join the Final Round. For the Final Round, the top three (3) winners were chosen but due to a tie for the 1st place, the Tie-Breaker Round with 10 questions was given.

The Champion of the competition was Ms. Samantha Mariya Kaila Camacho from Perpetual Help College of Manila, 1st runner up was Mr. Marion Jolo Imperio from Notre Dame of Greater Manila, and the 2nd runner-up was Mr. Zaldy Distor from Sultan Kudarat State University Laboratory High School.

The host for the event was Ms. Jacqueline Marjorie R. Pereda, and the game masters were Ms. Hannah Jane Din and Mr. Emerson Cruz. The Secretariat, Technical Team and other organizers of the event were Ms. Christine Cada (Zoom Host), Mr. Alfred Alcantara (Quizziz Presenter), Ms. Johanna Tuazon (Main Program Presenter) and Ms. Daisy Sucaldito (Score Tabulator and Evaluator). The judges of the iQuizBio were Dr. Anacleto M. Argayosa, Mr. Leonard Lapascua (Physics), and Mr. Ferandre Salatan (Chemistry and Earth Science). The ‘Opening Remarks’ was given by the CASE Dean, Dr. Howell Ho, and the ‘Closing Remarks’ was made by the Department Chair of Biology, Dr. Anacleto Argayosa.
