CHED-NCR Online Demo Teaching Winner

Congratulations to Ms. Jane Clarence A. Guevarra, a 3rd year Bachelor of Elementary Education student, for winning FIRST PLACE in the recently concluded 2020 ASEAN Month Celebration Activities that includes CHED- NCR Online Demo Teaching Contest which was held on August 27, 2020 at 9:00 AM. Besting other participants from various educational institutions, Ms. Guevarra gained the much coveted award on the Demo Teaching (Student Teacher) Category.

In commemoration of ASEAN’s 53rd founding anniversary this year 2020 in the midst of Covid-19, there was a call for Teaching Models in Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) at the Time of Covid-19 and Beyond: A Competition for Excellence and Resiliency in Education with the theme “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN”.

The objectives of the event were: to discover best teaching practices/resilient education approaches during pandemics and disasters; to create possibilities in designing innovative, effective and learner-centered methodologies of engaging learners; to explore and promote initiatives that foster the ASEAN spirit and contribute to ASEAN Community-building and; to provide a picture of the Philippine Higher Education sector’s future prospects for flexible learning.

All the presentations were held virtually. The participants were asked to present their institution’s best practices for 30 minutes to 1-hour time limit. The competition had two categories for students and professional teachers and was open to all higher education institutions both public and private.

There were Panel of Competent Evaluators who acted as Judges. They were then given 5 to 10 working days to assess the entries. Winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) will be determined by the panel of judges and for submission to the Office of International Affairs Staff, CHED-Central Office, for promotion and publication in available channels.

Awardees shall be given cash prizes with plaques and will enter into an agreement with the Commission to have their winning entries uploaded as part of the PHL CHED Connect Project – an open educational resources (OER) platform dedicated to promoting flexible learning in the country.

On her winning the competition, Ms. Guevarra shared, “It is really an honor to represent not just Trinity University of Asia and my Department, but all of the competent and responsive Future Educators. I am just so blessed to be part of ASEAN’s 53rd Founding Anniversary. This is a milestone for my teaching journey and profession.”

Once again, congratulations!
