Tagisan ng Talino 2021: Grade School Category

Twelve schools from Metro Manila both private and public institutions sent their best representatives vying for the championship of being crowned as champion of Tagisan ng Talino 2021: Grade School Category. The online inter-school quiz bee was participated by 78 Grade 6 students. The event was recently concluded last February 17, 2021 (Wednesday) at 8 AM through Google Meet. It was also broadcasted live on the TUA Junior High School Facebook page.

The program was graced by the overall chair of the TUA 58th Founding Anniversary, Dr. Fernando V. Trinidad III and delivered his opening remarks. The event was conducted using the Kahoot website. It was hosted by Mr. Grundy Q. Goden who also served as the Quiz Master. Three board of judges were also present for any contest on the answer from the coach or the participant. Before the competition, the coaches already briefed their representatives about the mechanics. The competition had three elimination rounds before the final round. Each round is composed of ten questions about three subjects: English (3 questions), Science (3 questions), Mathematics (3 questions), and one COVID-related question considered as a double point. The first elimination round ended with 40 participants from 78 participants. The second elimination round ended with 20 participants. The semi-final round determined the 10 participants who will proceed in the final round.

The competition was closed having different top three results for the first three rounds. Before the event ended, the TUA Junior High School choir serenaded the participants with their song “I see the light” from the movie ‘Tangled’. The results were announced by the Chairman of the Board of Judges, Ms. Junallen R. Magsino. Three different schools emerged in the top three places, 2nd runner up – Yitzhak Cinco from UST Angelicum College, 1st runner up – Sophia De Guzman from St. Bridget School QC, and the CHAMPION – Venice M. Perfecto from 15th Ave. Elementary School.

The event is a collaboration of TUA Basic Education (Junior High School and Senior High School) and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education for the 58th Founding Anniversary of the Trinity University of Asia. In the closing remarks of Prof. Julius D. Somera, he congratulated all the participants for taking the challenge. He commended the team behind the Tagisan ng Talino 2021: Grade School category including Ms. Jennifer A. Paule who is the overall in-charge. In his final words in closing remarks, “We are celebrating abundance despite the pandemic we are experiencing … education must continue, and we must adapt the drastic changes in every school for our students.” The event can still be viewed in this link:
